Friends of Fort Ross

Fort Ross State Historic Park has several high quality educational programs offered to people of all ages. We have the Environmental Living Program, the Environmental Living Day Program, School Tours, College Tours, Senior Groups, and any group that would like to visit the park with a presentation and cannon firing. Our mission to share and highlight this unique history to as many people as possible.

Our programs are generally self supporting.  Your donation to 'Friends of Fort Ross' will go directly to support these programs. Also - our volunteer program is growing. Volunteers are needed to strengthen the daily presentation schedule, to work in the office, to make repairs, and to share their talents in as many ways as possible.

The Fort Ross Environmental Living Program (ELP) is a hands-on learning experience, which allows children to experience the joys of history as active participants. Students spend a day and a night performing some of the tasks that were a part of daily life at Fort Ross. Each student takes on the character and costume of a Fort Ross resident. By experiencing what life may have been like here in early California the children gain a better understanding of history and their relationship to it. Generally, the curriculum is geared toward fourth or fifth grade California History.

The Fort Ross State Historic Park Environmental Living Day Program, (ELDP) is a program developed for those classes that wish to come for a full day with hands on based curriculum geared toward living history. Our school programs provide teachers and students with an hour long presentation followed by the firing of the cannons. And our other tour groups are geared towards the needs and wishes of that group - all with a presentation and cannon.
